I cried for 5 hours that day.


My toddler had been struggling with red, inflamed patches on his arms and behind his knees for almost a year.


At first it was “just dry skin.”


Then it became constant itching.


Then broken sleep.


Then blood on the sheets.


He couldn’t go a single night without scratching until his skin was raw.


And I couldn’t go a single night without waking up to the sound of him whimpering.


But the worst thing is…



We tried everything the doctors recommended. 


Steroid creams. Stronger steroid creams. Thick moisturizers applied three times a day. 


We changed his diet, switched detergents, bought special bath products, and followed every piece of advice as if I were studying for an exam. 


I did exactly what I was told because I thought that’s what a good mum does.


But no matter how careful I was, the flare-ups kept coming back.


And the guilt started creeping in.



I felt guilty putting steroid creams on his tiny body, especially when they only seemed to work for a few days before the redness returned.


I felt guilty watching him struggle and not knowing how to fix it. 


It’s a helpless feeling when your child is suffering and you’re the one who’s supposed to protect them.


The last time we went to the dermatologist, he said one sentence I’ll never forget: 

“Just keep moisturizing and it should pass.”


That was it.


Seriously? Was that all they taught him at medical school?


He didn’t offer any testing.


He didn’t ask any deeper questions. 


He didn’t explain why it kept coming back or why the creams stopped working. 


When I got into my car, I broke down. I felt dismissed, invisible, and honestly a little crazy for thinking there had to be more to the story.


But deep down, I couldn’t stop wondering if it was somehow my fault.
